Because of the COVID-19 situation, the Webelos bridging ceremony and Pack meeting scheduled for March has been cancelled.  We may be holding the event in April, depending on the situation.  The Golden Empire Council is recommending all scouting meetings be cancelled through March 31.  Again we will assess the situation next month.

January 26, 2020 update

Posted on Jan 26 2020 - 7:34pm

Friday night's Pinewood Derby was a roaring success.  The scouts had a blast racing their creations. Much gratitude goes out to the many family volunteers who helped with the event and to the judges for volunteering their time .  Thank you also to the Scouts from Troops 281, 217, and 380 who helped run the event.  Most of the scouts are former members of Pack 281 and it's wonderful to see them returning to help the younger Cub Scouts.

December 8, 2019 update

Posted on Dec 8 2019 - 8:43pm

Thank you to everyone that participated in the Pack's holiday caroling event and the GRDC Miners on a Mission event.  A huge thank you to Nico's mom, Terri Palomba, and Aiden's mom, Erica Hung, for organizing the caroling event.  The scouts, parents, and patrons all enjoyed themselves.

December 1, 2019 update

December Pack holiday caroling
Our Pack's traditional holiday caroling event is scheduled for this Friday, December 6, at the Gold River Shopping Centre.  This is a fun event as the scouts sing holiday songs at the various stores and get to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate at the end.  Please RSVP on Scoutbook as soon as possible so we can inform Bel Air grocery store how many hot chocolate cups and treats are needed.
We will meet at the Gold River Starbucks at 6:00PM.  Please have your scout dressed warmly in their Class A uniform, along with holiday accents (Santa hat, lights, etc.).  We will serenade the patrons at Starbucks then move on to the next establishment until we arrive at the Bel Air supermarket.  In addition, if the weather cooperates, we will sing some carols in front of the Christmas tree by Blaze Pizza.
Scouts that did not receive their Pinewood Derby car kits at the November Pack meeting will receive their kits at the caroling event.
And speaking of Pinewood Derby............
Pinewood Derby
The Pinewood Derby is scheduled for January 24, 2020 at the GRDC MP room.  More details will be provided in the coming weeks.  However, the design categories have been set.  There will be 5 categories for this year's Pinewood Derby:
  • Scouting (anything having to do with Scouting)
  • Animals and insects (mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, amphibians, and bugs)
  • Movies and TV shows (Star Wars, Star Trek, Superheroes, anything from a movie or television show)
  • Food items
  • Cool vehicles (cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc.)
Awards will be given to the scout who's design is selected by the judges for each category.  In addition, 1 design will be selected as the Best In Show design.
The 3 fastest cars and the Best In Show car will advance to the District races.
Attached are the design rules for the Pinewood Derby cars.
