2008 Pinewood Derby Results

Yesterday was a GREAT day! Not only did the rain and wind stop to allow us to enjoy a wonderful event, but we also had some exciting races at the Pack 281 2008 Pinewood Derby!

Before we post the results there are people to acknowledge:
Our Current Cubmaster Jerry Godfrey who officiated at the event.
Our Former Cubmaster Adam Kalsey who operated the equipment that kept the times recorded
Our Quartermaster Scott DePeel who arrived early and was one of the last to leave - without him bringing all the track equipment from storage it would have been pretty difficult to hold the Race!
Our Snack bar attendants Marianne Marler and Jamie Lefevre, Beth and Greg Willey who assisted with snack bar and check in duties, Pizza Guys who provided the pizza's at a reduced price (great community support!)
Our Den Chiefs William Ruygt, Alistair Fortson, Sameer Punia, and Alex Trimm, all from Troop 380, who helped set up, clean up and run our show.
Alan Prince and Tarek Gaylon who tallied the votes for our Category Winners.
Elson Kim who took pictures of the races as they were running.
Our Blue and Gold Ticket sellers Jennifer Prince and Sue Statti.
All our parents, grandparents, siblings and friends who lent a hand, clapped and cheered and supported our event -
THANK YOU ALL!
What is the outward appearance? Is the painting of the car appealing? Are the color and paint even all over? Is the appearance pleasing to the eye?

Scores will be weighted to reward cars in which the boy obviously did the work.

Leader Class

GRDC Garden Project

This Saturday, Oct 15, Pack 281 is going to be working in the GRDC Garden of Learning this Saturday from 9am to noon. As our chartered organization, GRDC provides us with many resources, including a place to meet. Let's show our thanks by pitching in for this project.

Please make an effort to stop by, even if only for a short time, to help out.

Dress for doing some yardwork. Bring some garden tools to make sure there's enough. And if anyone has a gas-powered weeder, that would be helpful.

Family Fun night coming

Last year we started a new tradition in Pack 281 -- our June pack meeting is an outdoor picnic. Come enjoy the summer evening and hang out with your friends.

We'll have games, prizes, and lots of fun. Some Boy Scouts from Troop 281 will be there, showing off some Boy Scout skills.

Bring your chairs and a picnic dinner to Gold River's Prospect Park Friday, June 9 at 6pm. Boys should wear their class B uniforms (that's shorts and a Cub Scout t-shirt) and bring a friend.

2005 Pinewood Race Day Schedule

For the January 29 pack Pinewood Derby, we'll be doing things a bit
differently. Instead of having everyone packed into the room waiting for their turn to race, come by in the morning and register your car and then come back later when it's your turn to race. Of course you're
welcome to stay and watch any race you'd like. The schedule is as follows:

Registration

8:30-9:30

Tigers

9:45-10:00

Wolves

10:00-10:30

Bears

10:30-11:00

Webelos

11:00-11:30

Open

11:30-12:00

Leaders

12:00-12:30

Finals

12:30-12:45

The Pit Stop Cafe will have food available for breakfast and lunch.

Registration closes promptly at 9:30 am. Late registrations cannot be
accepted. Make sure you're there early -- the lines at the registration table are always longest toward the end of the registration period.

Once your car is registered it will be placed on the impound table and
cannot be touched again until after the race, so take care of any lubing and final tweaks before you register.

The Open race is for anyone related to a Cub Scout to enter. Brothers,
sisters, neighbors, or whoever, they can all enter the Open race. The
Leaders race includes all the leaders in the pack, including the Boy
Scouts serving as den chiefs.

The final race will determine the fastest cars in the pack. The 1st,
2nd, and 3rd place winners from each of the Cub Scout divisions (Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos) need to return at 12:30 to race in the finals.

The workmanship judging will take place from 9:30-9:45, so stick around after registration to get your ballots in.

Adam Kalsey will have the official scale at his house starting Jan 22, so if you want to make sure your car is right at 5 ounces, him a call and stop by to weigh your car.
